Suji Cookies

This is my first entry for cookies. It happens to be one of my favourite cookies and I have been baking this cookie for many years and it is an easy to do cookie .The special thing about this cookie is it melts in ones mouth !! You could say its something like Melting Moments but the difference is it uses ghee instead of butter. Its not made with suji and I still don’t know why many refer it as Suji Cookies. It has another name too , Arab Cookies.I don’t know whether this cookie originated from Arab !! But it has been a famous cookie here in Malaysia for many many years.

At first , I actually had bits and pieces of the recipe. My first attempt come out well but it started to stick on my fingers.I added some extra ingredients on my 2nd attempt and it come out just the way I wanted.I am sharing this recipe with you and hope that you like it too!!

Ingredients :

1 kg All Purpose Flour
5 cups icing sugar
550-580 gm melted ghee
1 tbsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda

Method

Combine all the dry ingredients in a bowl. You can lessen on the icing sugar if you want .There is actually no need to use all the melted ghee.Use sufficient ghee to combine the ingredients into a dough.Once you feel that the dough is not sticky to the hand then you are ready to mould it.

Grease a pan with butter and with some flour. Take a bit of the dough to make a small marble .Do the same until all the dough finishes. You can use cookie cutter too .But I prefer to make it into small marbles. It looks rather cute.If preferred you can add colouring .Finally decorate it with some coloured sugar beads or any other decorations as desired.

I used microwave to bake this cookies.Preheat oven to 180C and bake the cookies for 10-15 mins depending on the size of your cookies.Once cooled store in air tight container. The more longer the cookies are stored, the more tastier it gets.

Thanks for visiting!

    1. You can use butter but the taste will not be the same..try using ghee to get the flavour of the cookies.
