Chocolate Orange Brownies

This recipe is courtesy of Pilsbury Products. When you purchase a box of Pillsbury product you will be given a recipe attached with it. Some cake mix products comes with a mini baking recipe book .I was lucky to get one and thatz where I got this recipe. The original recipe uses mint flavouring but I have replaced it with orange.

The recipe consist of 3 layers ,first the cake base, followed by the filling which is a rich orange and cheese filling top with chocolate frosting .The perfect dessert to feature similar method with three layer square, is the Nanaimo Bar and Millionaire Shortbread Bars. Nanaimo Bars, for the uninitiated, are a very popular Canadian confection originating in Nanaimo, British Columbia that some believe is Canada's most popular dessert.
Chocolate Orange Brownies is an idle dessert to serve for Christmas ,you can prepare the brownies a day ahead and refrigerate it overnight. This title is for good reason as these rich bars are absolutely delicious and very addictive. The combination of chocolate and orange is luvable among young and elders.

They begin with a flavorful blend of brownie mix with chunk of chocolate , egg that are held together with oil . This layer need to be baked and cooled before covering with a thick creamy icing made from butter, icing sugar, cream cheese ,milk and orange emulco for the rich orange taste.I have not colored this layer with orange colouring since the orange emulco gives a rich and beautiful orange colouring to this layer. It does present a more festive look and so everyone knows they are orange flavored. This layer needs to be chilled so we can finish the squares off with a shiny coating of chocolate. I like to use Hershey products , for its rich chocolate flavor and my kids absolutely luv it. The only point to remember is to bring the squares to room temperature before cutting into squares so the chocolate will not break into small pieces. These are perfect anytime of the year especially the combination of chocolate and orange do seem to be a holiday favorite so you might want to include these in your holiday baking.

In a large bowl, beat all filling ingredients.Do not reduce the amount of icing sugar because then the filling would not set nicely.Beat in medium speed until smooth.Spread over the cooled brownies .Refrigerate about 2 hours before frosting.

In a small saucepan ,melt the chocolate chips,1/4 cup butter and the cream over low heat, stirring constantly .Remove from heat, cool for 10mins .Pour over filling .Refrigerate about 1 hour or until chocolate set.Its better to leave the brownies in the fridge overnight.Cut into bars and you can place them in cute paper cups before serving.
